Job Title: Brewer/Cellar Operator Level I & II

The brewer/cellar operator plays a critical role in beer production and warehouse operations. This is a non-exempt hourly position full-time or part-time. Scheduled hours may vary based on demand. Essential Functions: Level I
-Daily logging of fermentation metrics for in-progress production batches.
-Dry hopping and process addition to in-progress batches.
-Accurate and comprehensive record keeping of production metrics and additions.
-Cleaning and sanitizing of fermentation tanks and brite beer tanks.
-Harvesting and pitching yeast.
-Focus and attention on learning standard operating procedures and quality standards.
-Carbonation of brite beer according to specifications.
-Maintaining cleanliness and organization of all production areas.
-Actively seeking direction and feedback from supervisors and more experienced brewers in order to expand abilities and knowledge.
-Assisting packaging team with canning and kegging of finished goods.
-Assisting packaging team with keg cleaning.
Essential Functions Level II (in addition to Level I)
-Operation of brewhouse-wort production in accordance with recipes produced by head brewer, adhering to all standard operating procedures.
-Operation of cellar centrifuge and transfer of brite beer.
-Cleaning and sanitizing of brewhouse equipment.
This is not an all-encompassing list of duties and responsibilities brewers/cellar operators may from time to time participate in additional tasks
and duties assigned by management as needed for successful brewing operations.
Requirements Level I
-Entry level – Mostly works under direct supervision.
-Learning to recognize deviations with production batches and reporting concerns for resolution.
-Ability to operate a forklift (forklift certification preferred).
-Basic understanding of brewhouse/cellar operations and workflow.
-Basic understanding of fermentation science.
-Desire to ask questions and expand knowledge of brewing and cellaring sciences.
-Adherence to all safety protocols and procedures.
Requirements Level II (in addition to Level I)
-At least 1 year experience in a production brewery.
-Receives results based on expectations and works mostly independently to achieve them.
-Focus on attention and operations with the goal of maintaining quality standards.
-Ability to recognize and address complex production issues and problems in collaboration with the brewing/cellar supervisor.
-Intermediate understanding of brewhouse/cellar operations and process flow.
-Intermediate understanding of fermentation science.
-Willingness and desire to share knowledge with less experienced brewers.
Work and physical environment
This position requires working in a large area surrounded by pallets, heavy items, kegs, shelves, in a brightly lit warehouse. When needed entering a very low temperature storage cooler may be necessary. Operating heavy machinery or being around heavy machinery. The area may be loud from time to time due to cooling equipment, forklift, and heavy items moving around. From time to time, it may be required to work outside to load and unload deliveries this may include wind, wet, or sunny conditions. Employees may be stationary for extended periods of time, may need to position self-up high, reach low, bend back and knees, and enter and exit vehicles. It may be necessary to lift up to 55 pounds occasionally above shoulder. Skid and slip resistant foot wear and appropriate clothing may be required.
