4 Events in 4 Weeks, Let's Do This
According to Parkinson’s Law—work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion. As a lean, tiny brewery, the ability to produce more with less is an essential step to start-up success. 32 North Brewing, a San Diego-based brewery and friends of Humble Sea, recently shared one piece of start-up advice, “At the start, take on more than you think you can handle.”
Wait, we should do what?
Sounding like a refurbished inspirational quote and counterintuitive to basic logic, Humble Sea Brewery is taking on more than it expects to handle, eliminating leg room and testing personal limitations. Starting in March, Humble Sea Brewery will be pouring beers at four local events in four weeks while maintaining demand for local restaurants and taprooms.
Upcoming events include:
- NextSpace Happy Hour with Wynn Capital, March 4th—Happy hour attendees will have the option to sample two styles of Humble Sea beer while Wynn Capital presents on financial planning and investment. Finances and beer do pair well together.
- Ventana PopUP Sale, March 25th-27th—Partnering with Ventana Surfboards, Humble Sea Brewery will unveil a hand-picked spruce tip pale ale for the downtown Santa Cruz PopUP. Customers can purchase discounted Ventana Surfboard clothing and supplies while sipping on a piney pale ale with ingredients gathered from northern California.
- First Friday with Design by Cosmic, April 1st—Design by Cosmic is a regular participant in First Friday's prolific events (e.g. February's Latte Art Throwdown). The wrinkles are being ironed out but expect a trifecta of art, Humble Sea beer and nibbles from a local food vendor. Toss in screen printing and a few other fun activities and Cosmic will the evening's clear-cut choice. More details to come.
- Nexties, April 8th—Did your invitation to the Oscar’s get lost in the mail (ours did)? None the less, Humble Sea beer will be served all night for the dolled-up men and women attending Santa Cruz’s premiere awards show. Spotlighting those who influence and inspire, the event starts at 7:00 pm and goes till the Rio gives us the boot.
With a 10bbl brewhouse and 60bbls of fermenting space on the way, supplying future events should be smooth sailing (we hope). However, Humble Sea Brewery is cranking away with a 1bbl pilot system, limiting supplies and forcing us to hit our marks. Although stressful, we're confident that the practice of squishing deadlines and maximizing time will only help us grow to our full potential.
