Well, Everybody Loves A Good Story
Business is a lot like sports, it makes you sweat. This past Friday at 1 pm, approximately five hours before beer needed to be tapped at Don Quixote's, Humble Sea Brewery was sweating bullets–big, heavy, copper plated, steel jacketed bullets.
Let's rewind. Humble Sea Brewery was invited to feature their Allie Blonde Ale during The Coffis Brothers’ double header at Don Quixote’s January 8th/9th. On Monday, January 4th at 8:37 pm, Humble Sea’s brewer and wife welcomed their beautiful daughter to the world. Nick, expectantly, spent three days by his wife’s side, resulting in a week’s worth of work funneling into two days. What could possibly go wrong with an abbreviated schedule? After plugging in the keg washer the morning of the first show, black smoke began billowing from the control panel. A keg washer is necessary for clean kegs; no ifs, ands, or buts about it. No keg washer = no clean kegs = no beer.
Discretion Brewing's Michael Demers and Jay Van Pykren swung by for a thorough examination. The keg washer was deemed unusable. Shit. With limited hours and no clean kegs, Humble Sea Brewery was on the cusp of flubbing their biggest event. Without hesitation, Discretion went above and beyond, lending out multiple clean kegs for the weekend. Discretion Brewing showed up with a life raft, keeping Humble Sea afloat when they were on the verge of sinking.
For two consecutive nights, Humble Sea Brewery’s Allie Blonde sold out. With 300+ people rocking to the T Sisters, McCoy Tyler Band and The Coffis Brothers, Don Quixote’s was more electric than a titanium rod in a thunderstorm. Friends, family, fans, beer lovers, and good time advocates alike partied until supplies ran low and the kegs kicked over. Literally, the crowds were so vast that Don Quixote's ran out of pint glasses and resorted to red cups. Saturday, the entire stock of Allie Blonde was consumed before The Coffis Brothers even took the stage. The dance floor was packed. The weekend rocked!
It goes to show why having leaders in the community is so importnat. If it wasn’t for the selfless class of Discretion Brewing, Humble Sea would have failed to deliver on a big time event. Sure, shit happens, but when it does, it’s important to think small, stay focused and reach out for help. Thank you Discretion Brewing and thank you to everyone who showed up in support!
